Communities in the Anthropocene

In November 2017, this art and performance installation went live as part of the Smithsonian Asia Pacific American Center's #Ctrl-Alt Culture Lab on Imagined Futures. Held in Soho, New York City, this nomadic pop-up offered 2-days of creative public engagement that furthered shifting how museums engage communities.

SCCS-NY 2017

As a part of the only international series of conservation conferences featuring students, the 2017 Student Conference on Conservation Science-New York (SCCS-NY) invited And Still the Waters Rise principle, Naiʻa Lewis, to be both a plenary speaker and member of a public panel. Sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History and its Center for Biodiversity and Conservation this conference provides opportunities for emerging scientists to professionally network, gain experience, and present and get feedback on their work.

ʻAe Kai: Convergence of Community

A mural was developed as a visual representation of the collective experience of the artists who participated in Smithsonian Asia Pacific American Center's ‘Ae Kai Culture Lab. Following 2016’s transformational culture labs – CrossLines in Washington, D.C. and CTRL+ALT in New York City – this was the biggest Culture Lab to date.
